Donna has recently retired as a lawyer after 20-plus years as an estates and trusts lawyer. Not ready just yet for full retirement, Donna is available to consult on estate planning and related matters including mediation. She became a lawyer later in life after successful careers first as a teacher and then as a consultant and project manager in the high tech industry. After building a successful, high-tech consulting business, she returned to university to complete her law degree in 1994 at the University of Ottawa.
When providing law services, Donna focused on helping people plan for, and deal with, illness, incapacity and death. As she has experienced such needs within her own family Donna has always had a particular interest in helping individuals with a disability.
During her career as a lawyer, she was a Certified Specialist (CS) in Estates and Trusts Law and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). She presented seminars and workshops to community groups and businesses on estate planning, guardianship and related issues for families and individuals. She also presented on legal technology and how it can help professionals improve the delivery of services to their clients.
She lives with her husband in an 1870’s stone house in a rural area of Ottawa. She enjoys spending time with three delightful grandchildren and getting outdoors for canoeing, hiking and camping.
